125 – APPARATUS RESPONSE

1.0       PURPOSE

1.1               The Apparatus Response SOG explains how the Fire Department members will start a response to the generic types of calls that are received from dispatch. These responses may change at any time at the discretion of an officer who may have more information on the call or concerns for coverage within the OCESD#3 Fire District.

1.2         A example of the types of calls received but not limited to include:

Structure Fire
Brush/Debris Fire
First Responder (Medical)
Car Fire
Major/Minor Vehicle Accident
Haz-Mat
Rescue

2.0       SAFETY

2.1               All members will follow all State of Texas laws with regard to operating apparatus.

2.2        Posted roadway speed limits will be followed at all times depending on the situation at which the member will use due regard for the safety of the public.

2.3        Seatbelts will be worn at all times during the operation (in motion) of the apparatus. At no time should the firefighter ever exit the apparatus while it is in motion.

2.4        The apparatus will not be backed up without a flagman at the rear of the vehicle.

2.5        No member will operate an apparatus unless that member is qualified to do so (Skills Signoff Sheet completed).

3.0       LICENSES

3.1               All members will be required to hold a current and valid State of Texas, Class “C” drivers license to operate any vehicle within the Fire Department.

3.2               A current and valid State of Texas, Class “B” Exempt CDL or Class “B” CDL will be required to operate the Engines, Tankers and the Ladder Truck.

4.1        All residential Structure fires within the OCESD#3 Fire District will be responded to with Two (2) Engines and One Tanker. All commercial structures and residential structures two-story or taller will be responded to with Two (2) Engines, a Tanker, and Ladder Truck.

4.2               All Brush/Debris fires within the OCESD#3 Fire District will be responded to with the Brush truck with the Tanker on stand-by.

4.3               All First Responder (Medical) calls within the OCESD#3 Fire District will be responded to with
an Engine with Squad 1 on Stand-by.

4.4               All Car fires, Major/Minor accidents, and Haz-Mats within the OCESD#3 Fire District will be responded to with an Engine.

4.5               All Rescue calls within the OCESD#3 Fire District will be responded to with an Engine and Ladder Truck. Specialty vehicles will be responded as needed for the specific type of rescue.

4.6               All Mutual Aid calls received by the Fire Department will be handled by situation. The Fire Department will try to fulfill the request of the calling Department and will send equipment as is available.
